Gallery - Popping Balloons

In the above example I captured a water balloon punctured with a pellet gun.

For this picture I used the following components:

  • Camera.
  • Universal Photo Timer with IR extension cable.
  • Pellet gun.
  • Water balloons.

The camera shutter was triggered with a microphone.

The pictures above show several balloons punctured with darts, each picture taken with an increasing delay.

The pictures were taken in a dark room.  The flash is the only source of light in the room.

The sound of a popped balloon triggers the external microphone (UPT_KIT1B version) activating the flash. It is a matter of a millisecond for the balloon to completely collapse once punctured.

Notes:
- Observe manufacturer safety precautions when handling a pellet gun or darts.
- Take into account the shutter lag when taking this type of photography.
